Data source: Israel 's Central Bureau of Statistics, The PA Central Bureau of Statistics and OCHA. All data on population updated to the end of 2005. Gates in the Separation Barrier There are 73 crossings in the Separation Barrier (as of July 2009), for movement between the severed parts of the West Bank . Eleven of these are checkpoints, which serve the general Palestinian population for crossing daily between the severed parts of the West Bank. Some of these checkpoints are opened every day for a consecutive period of twelve hours, and others are open around the clock. Thirty-eight crossings are agricultural gates, which serve Palestinian farmers separated from their land on the other side of the Barrier. Of these, 11 are opened two or three times a day, usually for an hour each time. These serve farmers with crops that require daily care (such vegetables and greenhouses). To cross, farmers need to obtain a permit from the Civil Administration, which is good for a specific gate . Seventeen other gates are opened between October and December, during the olive-picking and harvest seasons. During these seasons, the gates are usually opened two or three times a day, at fixed times, and according to the permit regime mentioned above. Another 10 gates are opened only during the olive-picking season. The Bil'in agricultural gate remains open around the clock, on High Court orders . Another 23 crossings are usually closed. They are opened only after prior arrangements are made with the Israeli Coordination and Liaison Offices.
